How To Spend a Night In Alone

Excuse the semi dramatic title, I couldn’t think of another way to phrase it! Last year Con was spending 2-3 nights a week away from home, and I’d kind of gotten into the rhythm of it, planning out my time and keeping busy. Now though, he’s home every night, and so last week when he went away for a week, it kinda threw me, I had to remember how to make the most of a night in alone. And actually, I quite enjoy an evening in alone every now and then, so I thought I’d share my tips for making the most of it.

Cook yourself your favourite meal for dinner.

It can seem like a lot of effort to cook for one, but I like to cook up a batch of my favourite dinner (usually something rich and full of pasta), so not only do I have a tasty, nourishing dinner, hell I’ve sorted lunch for the next day too. I really believe that time spent cooking for yourself is an important act of self care, so crack out your pans and get cooking!

Tick off a long standing to do.

Whether that’s putting on a delicates wash, deep cleaning the kitchen, sorting your wardrobe or organising your bookshelf, I always find ticking off one of those tasks helps you feel like you’ve done something productive with your night to yourself.

Have a soak in the tub or a long hot shower. 

Pull out body scrubs, face scrubs, bath bombs and a hair mask. Luxuriate in hot water, and spend time caring for your body. I love the Lush in shower moisturisers for nights like this!


Create a cosy, relaxing environment. 

Bring flowers into your bedroom, light candles, and pile the bed high with blankets and cushions. Turn your bed into a cosy nest for the night!

Read that book you’ve been meaning to read for ages. 

We’ve all got a book sat somewhere that we’ve been meaning to read for the longest time, but never get around too. Dig it out and sink into your cosy nest bed for some uninterrupted reading time.

Buy your favourite snacks.

And enjoy not having to share them! A whole bar of Galaxy Caramel for me please!

Indulge in some pamper time. 

Stick a face mask on, dig out a mist, moisturise and apply serums and oils. Oil your cuticles, massage a heavy duty moisturiser into your feet, and stick on a guided meditation.

Watch a guilty pleasure.
