5 Ways I’m Getting A Better Night’s Sleep

Sleep is probably one of my favourite activities, up there with eating and lying on the sofa watching Netflix. I’m always on the hunt for a better night’s sleep, more sleep, so when the team at Leesa got in touch, it got me thinking about ways I can make sure I’m getting the best night’s sleep possible.

Getting a good night’s sleep is so important to me. As I’m still not back at 100% health after that whole tumour malarkey, my body needs as much sleep as possible to help it heal. Because of the anaemia and countless autoimmune things I have going on, I spend a lot of time in bed and I’m pretty partial to an afternoon nap too, so it’s super important to me that I’m getting great quality sleep in cosy, comfortable surroundings.

So, without any further ado, here are 5 things that are helping me get a better night’s sleep!

A new mattress.

Your sleep is only as good as your mattress, or so they say, and you won’t get a better night’s sleep than with a Leesa Mattress. The team at Leesa very kindly sent one to me to try and honestly it’s been such an easy process. We’ve been thinking about upgrading our mattress for a while, and the thought of the hassle of changing mattresses really put us off. It couldn’t be easier with Leesa though, the mattress arrived a few days after ordering, compactly rolled into a surprisingly small box. We simply slid the mattress out, sliced the plastic wrap open and watched it unravel to fill the bed frame.

The Leesa mattresses is designed with three unique layers of foam to ensure you’re getting great support and really it shows, the mattress moulds to your body making sure you’re as comfortable as possible. As someone who’s prone to aching joints, I couldn’t be happier to have a mattress that’s so supportive, I’m not waking up in the mornings and immediately cracking all my joints which makes a nice change!

Leesa also donate one mattress for every ten sold to charities supporting people seeking refuge from homelessness, domestic danger and human trafficking, and if that knowledge doesn’t help you get a better night’s sleep, nothing will! I’m sleeping so well on my Leesa mattress, there have even been a few mornings where Con’s had to drag me from bed!

New bedding.

I mentioned it in this post, last week, but I firmly believe in investing in good quality bedding. We spend a third of our lives sleeping, and I don’t know about you, but I want that third of my life to be as comfortable as possible. We recently picked up some new bedding from Homesense, and it was a real splurge but MAN these sheets are great. Combined with our new Leesa mattress, our bed feels like a total nest now!

No coffee after 3pm.

Don’t let these photos deceive you, one of the best things I’ve done this month is put a ban on coffee after 3pm. I’d gotten into the habit of an after work coffee pick-me-up, which was great in theory, but definitely contributing to a lot of the tossing and turning. After 3pm I switch to mint tea, and I’ve been enjoying a cup of camomile tea in bed before sleep too. It helps me unwind, and I’m definitely falling asleep quicker. Plus, it makes that first coffee of the day, enjoyed from the comfort of my cosy bed so much sweeter!

Tech free zone.

This one has been the hardest to implement, but I’ve put a ban on phone scrolling + Netflix binging in bed. It doesn’t help you unwind when you’re getting that blue light brain stimulation, and honestly I need help calming my brain down before bed, not firing it back up! It also frees up more time to read before bed, I’m definitely guilty of falling asleep with a book on my chest these days!

Invest in a Lumie Lamp.

I’ve started utilising the ‘sunset mode’ on my Lumie Lamp and WOW is it effective. You set your alarm, and the bulb slowly dims over 30 minutes, mimicking a sunset and tricking your brain into getting dozy. I love this feature, it really helps my brain slowly switch off, and 9 times out of 10 I’m asleep by the time the light goes out!

Getting a good night’s sleep can seem impossible, but I’m a big fan of the little changes that make a big difference. Make your bedroom a place of relaxation + comfort, create comforting evening routines that help you drift off, and you’ll be on your way.

Thanks so much to Leesa for sponsoring this post, letting me try out their awesome mattresses, and for improving my quality of sleep! I’ve been sleeping so much sounder since getting my Leesa mattress, I can’t recommend it highly enough.
