6 Ways To Re-Spark Your Creativity When You’re Feeling Flat

I’m no stranger to the creative slump, you’ve been churning out content like a machine and then all of a sudden your idea well runs dry. It happens to the best of us, we take creativity for granted but sometimes we need to do things to keep the spark going. Today I’ve got six failsafe ideas I use to re-spark my creativity when I’m feeling flat.

Walk somewhere new. Get outside, and get exploring somewhere new. It doesn’t have to be far or for long, stop off on your way home from work for a little walk, get your morning coffee from a different spot. The fresh air will recharge your energy, and a new place to see can give you a few new ideas.

Pick up a new magazine. Hit up your local WHSmith and pick up a magazine you’ve never seen before. Read with a cup of tea, and a pad of paper on hand to write down anything you particularly like, a quote, a style of photo, a topic that inspires you. Some of my favourites include Breathe, Womankind, Suitcase, 91 Magazine + In Clover.

Join your local library. This is something I’ve done recently and I’m so glad I did! Not only does your local library offer a new space to work – a change is as good as a rest and all that, but it’s also the perfect opportunity to scope out new topics, ideas + research things that interest you.

Create a seasonal flatlay. This is something I like to do whenever I’m feeling a little uninspired in the photography department, pull out everything seasonal from around the house (right now that means pine cones, fairy lights, garlands, wreaths, mugs of hot chocolate, christmas cards etc.) and play around with creating cute seasonal flatlays. Not only is the process fun, it kinda forces you to work creatively to get the right shot, and I often find after doing this I feel inspired to keep taking photos!

Watch a documentary. Netflix is flooded with fantastic documentaries these days, when I’m feeling uninspired I love to sit back and watch a documentary on a topic completely new to me. Sometimes stepping out of your comfort zone and engaging in a new topic can really refresh your brain + creativity.

Organise a coffee date with a friend. Sometimes when creativity is lacking the best thing you can do is get out of your rut, and focus on something completely different. I love organising a coffee date with a friend I haven’t seen for a while, sometimes a catch up + gossip is all you need to get you inspired again.
