January To Dos for a Slow Easy Month

Organise your home.
Christmas always seems to leave my house in chaos. Things have been misplaced, things are in piles, an influx of Christmas presents and sales purchases have left my flat feeling overflowing. It’s time for a good old fashioned sort out. Personally, the Marie Kondo approach is a bit militant for me, but there’s something to be said for a mindful approach to tidying, organising and decluttering. Spend time having a sort out, asking whether you’re keeping things because you want or need them, or out of habit or duty. Have a good sort out, a clean through, and get yourself feeling organised and back on top.

Add mindful movement into your daily routine.
After a few weeks of gluttony over Christmas, I don’t know about you but I’m craving a reset. My body is lusting after fresh air, movement, and a little self care. This month I’m putting movement at the top of my to do list, a daily walk, yoga stretch, gym sesh or swim is now a MUST, for both my physical and mental health.

Prioritise self care.
January can be hard for so many reasons. It’s dark, cold, the Christmas come down is tough, the outside is a little bleak and summer seems so far away. Looking after yourself should be a number one priority, and your actions should be serving that goal. Make self care your January resolution, and ask yourself what you really need to feel good this month.

Set reminders throughout the day to stop and breathe.
The main reason I love my Apple Watch is for the Breathe function. A few times a day it’ll get my attention, and encourage me to just spend one minute focusing on my breath. One minute is nothing out of the day, but the difference it makes is astounding. I feel focused, centred, realigned after that one minute of mindful quiet. Set a few reminders in the day, and when they go off, stop and breathe deep for a few moments. Trust me, it helps.

Book in something to look forward to.
Beat the January blues by planning something fun. It doesn’t need to be big, extravagant or expensive, just something to spur you on throughout the bleakest moments of the month. A girls night, a trip to somewhere local you’ve always wanted to see, or maybe just a coffee date with someone you love.
