You might not be inclined to believe it, since the weather is so dismal right now, but spring is almost upon us. In the last year I’ve been working hard to really appreciate the best bits of each season, rather than wishing away each and every month waiting for autumn. In celebration of that, I wanted to round up a few things to get excited about with spring’s arrival.
Fresh blossom around every corner. A cliche I know, but spring is well and truly sprung in the floral department. Magnolia trees bloom in front gardens, cherry blossoms adorn the streets, even coffee shops are decorated with fresh bunches of daffodils. It’s the most beautiful floral time of year, and I for one plan to make the most of it. Whether that means stopping for a cliched blossom snap or picking up bunches of tulips and daffodils for the house, I want blooms everywhere!
Seasonal spring produce. Eating seasonally is something I’ve been trying harder to do. Not only is it better for the environment, eating what’s available locally to you means the fruits and veggies you consume are fresher, and haven’t lost as many nutrients in transit. Spring is a great month for seasonal eating in the UK, you can look forward to fresh carrots, parsnips, beetroot, parsnips, kale, spring greens, leeks and towards the end of the season strawberries too!
Longer days. Daylight savings is almost upon us and yes, while it means we will go back to darker mornings for a short while, we get an extra hour of sunlight at the end of the day. I don’t know about you but I find more daylight in the evenings to be a real mood booster, and it’s nice to have time to do something outside after work!
Better weather is coming. I know it’s hard to believe right now with Storm Gareth raging on the UK (I know, Gareth is not a threatening name for a storm), but spring will bring with it more sunshine. We got a sneak peak of it a few weeks ago and it was a great reminder that when the sun is shining, life just feels a little better. I’m excited for the first afternoon in a pub garden, sunny Sunday walks in the forest, and waking up to sunshine beaming through the window. And you know, iced coffee weather.
Spring road trips. Whilst autumn is my first love for a good road trip, spring comes in a close second. The weather is good but not too hot, the world is in bloom and it’s the perfect time to load up the car with my favourite snacks, coffee and a good Spotify playlist. I’m looking forward to driving out and exploring more of Dorset, we live right on the cusp of Dorset and Hampshire, and my adventuring tends to happen more in Hampshire, so this spring I want to head out to the Jurassic coast a little more!
So, have I convinced you to embrace spring fever yet?
What are you most excited about this season?
