Oh I do love when the first of the month falls on a Monday. There’s something wonderfully fresh start-y about it, like a new chapter of a book, a fresh journal, or new sheets on a bed. I’m excited, I think it’s one of the most beautiful months (fall really suits the British countryside) and I’m excited for a rather autumnal themed October to do list…
Pumpkin picking! FINALLY it’s acceptable to go pumpkin picking! Whilst I’ve already picked up a few munchkin pumpkins and some little squashes in Sainsburys, I’m excited for the annual pilgrimage to the Pick Your Own farm for a big ‘ol pumpkin. That’s how you know fall is in full swing!
Make hot apple cider. Because who doesn’t want to warm up with a mug of spiced apple cider after a day exploring the countryside!
Embrace slow. I did a whole blog post on why I’m embracing slow for a new season, and I really want to put the work in on this for October. It’s the perfect excuse for cosy nights in, slow cooking comfort food, and afternoons with your head in a book. I’m really here for it.
More bubble baths. I honestly can’t remember the last time I had a bubble bath and that in itself is a travesty. I’m excited to pop to the Lush Oxford Street store this weekend and stock up on my favourites from the Lush Halloween collection, the perfect excuse for more bubble baths this month!
Spend less. I don’t want to mention the C word here, but with a certain big holiday looming on the horizon, I want to reign in my spending this month and make sure I’m putting some money aside for gifts, parties and the general expenses of the holiday season (ie, my Gingerbread latte bill).
Take some beautiful, autumnal photos. I’m so excited about the photo opportunities October brings, I want to play with pumpkins and crispy leaves and coffees, and just generally put aside more time to play with my camera. Don’t forget to tag your autumnal images #HuntingForAutumn on Instagram to be in with the chance of winning the book of the month! If you haven’t yet, you can sign up for the newsletter here, I promise you won’t be disappointed!
Try more soup recipes. I do a pretty killer chicken and vegetable soup, and a good tomato and red pepper one too, but I want to experiment a bit more with soups this month! Tis the season of squashes and sweet potato and yummy root veg, so it’s the perfect excuse to get the blender out!
Walk in the rain. I’ve got waterproof walking boots and a toasty ski jacket, there’s no more using the weather as an excuse to stay inside! I’m looking forward to rainy afternoons in the forest (and warming up in a country pub after).
Load up on Pumpkin Spice Lattes. They’re always gone too soon, so I want to get a few more in before they’re gone!
Here’s hoping we have a great month!
