Current Beauty Loves

It’s been quite some time since my last round up of beauty favourites, so long that when I was putting my makeup on one morning last week I realised there were a handful of products I hadn’t really talked about. SO, I spilled the contents of my makeup bag, snapped some photos, and here we are, ready to talk about my current beauty loves.

Let’s start with base! I used a Cult Beauty voucher at the end of last year to pick up the Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder foundation, and honestly, it took me a while to get it. I think the trick to falling in love with this is to step away from brushes when you’re applying it, and stick with either your fingers or a damp Beauty Blender.

This is quite a unique formula of foundation, it’s incomparable to anything else in my collection. When you first apply it it’s really sheer, it doesn’t appear to be offering any coverage at all really, just a bit of glow to the skin and a little evening out of the skintone. After ten minutes or so though it looks quite different, a soft natural finish with just enough coverage to make everything look uniform. It’s SO incredibly natural on the skin it’s almost impossible to detect, and it’s become my go to for everyday.

I do find that with it I need a good coverage concealer to help with my dark circles, and the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer has been fitting that bill nicely. This is an incredibly high coverage liquid concealer – normally you have to turn to stick or pot concealers for this kind of cover. I find that less is more with this, a little on the darkest part of the undereye blended in with a Beauty Blender gives a flawless coverage and still quite natural finish. It pairs really well with the Charlotte Tilbury foundation, and I’m super pleased with it so far.

For bronzer I’ve returned to an old drugstore favourite, the Max Factor Creme Bronze in 01. Despite the somewhat misleading name, this is a finely milled baked powder bronzer. I keep coming back to this because I just love the shade, it’s quite ashy for a bronzer, but not too dark for my pale skin, and although it’s got a slight sheen to it, it’s just enough to stop it looking flat, rather than making it look overtly shimmery. For £10 you’d be hard pushed to find a better bronzer.

I finally understand the hype around Glossier Boy Brow now! I’ve been using it for around six weeks, I picked it up on a whim from the Glossier Penthouse in New York and I’m SO glad I did. I can’t believe how much of a difference this makes to my brows just being a gel, on simple makeup days this is all I use, just to add a little more colour and definition, but it layers well on top of other products too.

Another drugstore gem, I’ve been putting the new Maybelline Total Temptation Mascara to the test, and all in all it’s a good everyday mascara. It’s quite fluttery, lifting and lengthening your lashes, but for a bolder look on a night out I prefer something with a little more volume. It’s easy to apply though and gives a pretty impressive look in one coat.

Since finally getting my mitts on the Lorac Pro 3 Palette I haven’t been able to put it down. It’s the kind of love affair I was expecting to have with the original Lorac, I think the colours in this bad boy are more up my street. The formula is infallible, buttery smooth, intensely pigmented shadows, and I love the warm golden tones. I just feel bad for my other palettes lying neglected!

One more eye product that deserves a shoutout, I’ve been pretty much exclusively using the Marc Jacobs Highliner Matte Gel Eye Pencil in Earthquake for the last six weeks. I love the formula of these, they’re super creamy and just glide straight on to the eye, but once they set they don’t budge. I’ll definitely be picking up the black shade when I burn through my current black liner.

And lastly, a little shout out to the IGK Rich Kid Coconut Oil Air-Dry Styler, which since I bought it has been the only styling product I’ve used in my hair. I love the effect this gives, piecey tousled hair that holds it’s style and looks just the right amount of messy. Luckily for us IGK launches in Space NK this month so I won’t need to keep lugging this stuff back from the States!
