Here we go guys, starting off a little series of US hauls with the one I know y’all are most pumped for, today I’m spilling the contents of the little black and white bags I bought back from across the pond. If I’m lucky, I happen upon a Sephora once a year or so, and when I do I like to make up for lost time, so I went pretty hard on the beauty shopping in New York. Shout out to Con who went into eight different Sephora locations with me (some of them multiple times, what a trooper).
My skincare routine is pretty solid right now, so this is the leanest of the categories. Two things did make their way home with me though, the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask, and the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. I’d heard so many good things about the Glow Recipe mask I just had to try it, and I can confirm it’s pretty dreamy. It’s a weird, very runny but a little gloopy texture that smells deliciously like fresh watermelon. It comes with a little spatula you can use to goop it onto your face, you don’t need much, and it sets almost like an invisible peel. Leave it on overnight and wake up to fresh, resurfaced skin. I’ve been using this twice a week in the evenings and loving it so far!
As for the Laneige Lip Mask, that was a bit of an impulse purchase but one I’m glad I made! It’s a little more heavy duty than you’re usual lip balms. It’s a nice overnight treat to keep your lips soft, especially in this cold weather, and it smells deliciously of berries! I’m wishing I’d picked up the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask too now, but I suppose that will have to wait til next time!
I was running low on a few haircare bits and pieces, so I used a trip to Sephora as an excuse to try out a few new bits. I love the Ghost Oil from Verb, so I was keen to try a few more products from them. I ended up picking up their Hydrating Mask and Styling Cream. I haven’t had a chance to use either yet but I’ll report back when I do!
I didn’t take a dry shampoo with me which turned out to be a mistake, wearing a beanie all day to protect my head from the cold was making my hair feel really slippy. I picked up the DryBar Detox Dry Shampoo to tide me over and whilst this is certainly an effective dry shampoo and texturiser, it definitely leaves a bit of a white cast to the hair, so it needs a little working in. I like it, but not as much as IGK’s dry shampoo offering.
Speaking of IGK, I picked up a mini travel size of the Rich Kid Coconut Oil Gel to try out because it sounded so intriguing. I’m SO glad IGK are launching in Space NK next month because I bloody love this, You apply it to damp hair before styling and it somehow gives your hair texture whilst keeping it feeling soft and like there’s no product in there at all. MAGIC I tell you.
And lastly I picked up a travel size of the Ouai Wave Spray to see what all the fuss is about. I haven’t tried this yet but you’ll be the first to know when I do!
Makeup is where I seem to have gotten a little carried away and started panic buying – oops! That said, I was certainly more restrained than I have been before, so that’s something I suppose! Sephora had a few Christmas sets on sale and being a VIB member meant I got an extra 20% off the sale, so I scored a few bargains here!
I love the Tarte cooling eye patches but they weren’t in stock to buy individually, so I picked up the Wide Awake set for a cool $10 in the sale. Inside is a mini of their Lights Camera Lashes mascara, a small eye cream and a set of eye patches, so I’m excited to play with this kit – such a bargain.
Since my last trip to the US, Colourpop launched in Sephora and I was SO excited to check it out. Unfortunately, they only have a really limited selection in stores but I was still able to pick up the Golden State of Mind Palette, a steal at $18 in the sale. I haven’t had a chance to play with it properly yet but I have tried out a couple of shades and have been super impressed with the pigmentation and finish. I also picked up a Supershock Eyeshadow in Fluffy which I’m OBSESSED with and you’ll hear about in more detail soon.
I restocked my supplies of the Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade in soft brown, my one has finally dried up after about four years in my stash! I love this for a bold brow look, and it’s incredibly longwearing. I also picked up the Sephora Pro Brow Brush as my last one got left in Ibiza. It’s the best brush for brows, so soft and the perfect size, and comes with a handy spoolie on the end.
I was also excited to see a miniature NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in the aisle of doom – it’s my favourite concealer for on the go, and I’ll be keeping this little mini in my handbag.
I definitely bought an unnecessary amount of lip products on this trip, but hey, lip products are where Sephora really shines. It’s one of the saddest facts of life that we don’t get Bite Beauty in the UK! So I picked up a Bite Lip Pencil in the shade 022, described as a rosy nude, it’s my perfect natural lip shade. I love just layering a nude lip liner under balm on minimal makeup days and the formula of this is just gorgeous, so longwearing and comfortable. I also picked up the Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Chai which I’ve been lusting over forever.
I have a lot of the Fresh lip balms, and we can now get Fresh Beauty in the UK, but they’re much cheaper in the US so I took the opportunity to add the shade Blossom to my collection. Similarly, I picked up one of the new Marc Jacobs Liquid Lip Crayons in the shade Night Mauve, and I’m so impressed with the formula, intensely creamy and pigmented in one swipe.
Sephora had two Bite Beauty Christmas gift sets still in stock and I couldn’t help but pick them up, they’re such a great way to try new shades (and damn are those minis cute). I purchased both The Perfect Bite Amuse Bouche Kit, and the Liquified Liquid Lip Kit and I’m so excited to try out the shades.
And onto the miscellaneous items! I picked up two packs of the Well Kept Screen Cleansing Towelettes – they’re the best for keeping my glasses clean. I also bought two more Sephora Green Tea Eye Masks as back ups, I’m terrified of running out of these, they’re my favourite. I’ve been lusting after the Elizabeth and James Nirvana Bourbon Perfume for the longest time, but I never made the splurge since I certainly have enough fragrance. I caved and picked up the rollerball this time though, I love the scent so much, it’s so woody and earthy and damn sexy.
Everything else is VIB rewards I spent my points up! I picked up the Peter Thomas Roth Fantastic Four set and I’m excited to try some bits from the brand. I got a mini travel size of the Sunday Riley C.E.O. Antioxidant Moisturiser which they actually sell in Sephora in this size for $22, so I was pretty chuffed to get this for free. And lastly, a mini deluxe sample of the Too Faced Chocolate Bronzer which I’ve only used once but I loved immediately!
Phew! Fear not, there will be another post with you shortly with the outside of Sephora beauty haul – you didn’t think that’d be it, did you?!
