August Beauty Favourites

As I’m sitting down to write this post the rain is lashing down, I’ve got a hot coffee topped with cinnamon, and despite the fact it’s not even 11am, I’ve got the lights on because it’s so dreary outside. Does anyone else feel like we’ve been cheated out of August? I feel like my beauty favourites for this month aren’t particularly summery because for the most part it hasn’t felt like summer!

All that being said, I feel like I’ve been in a real beauty groove this month! After months of opting for a five product makeup routine, keeping things super simple, I seem to have fallen back in love with makeup, piling product after product onto my face. I think it might be a confidence thing, my skin is looking great right now and I feel like I’ve got this awesome canvas for makeup that I want to make the most of!

My skincare routine doesn’t change much month to month, but one new addition in August is the Bobbi Brown Soothing Cleansing Oil, which I’ve been using to take off my makeup.  This was given to me by a friend and I think I need to go give said friend a big hug because MAN I love this stuff. Where I’ve been wearing more makeup this month it was taking a while to get it all off with micellar water, but this stuff just melts it off like magic. It’s incredibly gentle, but just a few seconds massaging two pumps of this into my skin and my makeup is gone! It doesn’t sting on the eyes, and leaves my skin feeling soft and supple. Full marks from me!

I’ve been spending a lot more time on my base this month, layering up products to make it last longer in the muggy heat we’ve been having. I’ve fallen back in love with the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, which creates a smooth and even base for makeup, and stops the skins natural oils from disturbing your foundation. I’ve been setting everything in place with the Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder, which is incredibly lightweight and doesn’t mattify things too much, just takes the edge off any shine and keep things in place. Lastly, I’ve been giving things an extra fixing in place with the new Rimmel Insta Fix and Go Spray, the first drugstore setting spray I’ve ever used that actually works! The combo of these three products means that no matter what foundation I reach for, my makeup still looks perfect and fresh at the end of the day.

My brows have found a new product routine this month too! I was kindly gifted the Benefit Brow range at the beginning of the month – I’d previously tried a lot of it but only in deluxe sample size so they didn’t last long! Right now my two stand outs are the Goof Proof Brow Pencil and the 3D Browtones Gel. The Goof Proof pencil is perfect for filling in my brows easily and quickly, whilst the browtones gel holds them in place without making them feel heavy with product or look too intense. I use the shade 4 and it’s pretty much a perfect colour match!

I’ve also had my MAC palette out on my dresser this month and I’ve fallen back in love with it! The majority of shades are MAC but there are a few Makeup Geek and Benefit shadows in there too. I love this palette because I’ve picked every shade carefully so I love and use them all! I’ve been using Quarry, Club and Blackberry from MAC a lot, as well as Makeup Geek Peach Smoothie with Cocoa Bear in the crease for a warm I-wish-I-had-the-Naked-Heat-palette look. If you’re interested I can do an updated post on my MAC palette, I know it can be hard to know where to start with putting one together!

I haven’t been particularly loyal to any one particular lip colour this month, but I have been loving the Dr Lipp’s Nipple Balm for Lips to keep my lips soft and smooth! I’ve got one in my handbag and one in my bedside drawer now!

I feel like all these favourites are real workhorses, these aren’t fleeting fancies, but rather products that are great makeup bag staples and will be around for a while.

What have you been loving this month?
