I think May has been my favourite month of the year so far. Yes it’s been hectic, mostly drizzly and rainy, and kinda stressful at times, but there’s been so many great things too. We finally moved into our new flat, and whilst it’s not quite finished, it’s perfect and I already know we’re going to be so happy here. It’s the first month that hasn’t bought surgeries or procedures for me, and I’m finally starting to feel a little more human. I feel like I’ve found a good work life balance this month, and I’m happy to have that continue through to June.
This month I really wanted to talk about a whole bunch of favourites, not just beauty and fashion, but life and home things too, so hopefully there’ll be something for everyone here!
Let’s get beauty out of the way first, and there are three things I wanted to mention. First is the Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Volume Mascara, which I mentioned in Sunday’s Five To Try post. It’s one of the best mascaras I’ve tried, if you like thick, fluttery, voluminous lashes, you’ll love this. It’s the only mascara I’ve used all month, and I’m obsessed. Also a shout out to the Sephora Green Tea Sheet Masks which have saved my stressed out skin this month!
This month I also managed to get my hands on the lipstick collaboration between MAC and Fleur de Force. I feel a little bad talking about this because it sold out so quickly, but it’s become my go to everyday nude and I’m totally obsessed with it. I’m going to try and find a dupe for it within my collection, so keep an eye on my Twitter and if I find one I’ll let you know over there!
Fashion-wise, my wardrobe choices have been fairly simple (twice this month I turned up at work in an almost identical outfit to my mum – need to work on that), but I have been wearing my Veronica Dearly Rabid Feminist Pin with pride. I’ll be wearing this until the pay gap is equalised, Donald Trump is impeached, and I can walk down the street without being catcalled. I don’t like to think too much about how long that’ll be.
Moving on to lifestyle favourites, obviously the main one is our new home! I think our new bed is my favourite part, we picked out a new frame, mattress, duvet, pillows and bedding, and I swear it’s like getting into a marshmallow cloud. I’m a firm believer in investing in your bed and it’s certainly paid off! Looking forward to blagging a few duvet days in June! I’ll have a full post up on our bedroom soon, but the bed frame was from Next, the mattress is IKEA, the duvet cover is from Homesense, the duvet + pillows are Dorma and the pink fluffy cushions are from Matalan!
The other great thing about being in our own place is having our own kitchen space again! I’m far too embarrassed to tell you what our Deliveroo history looks like for March and April, it was pretty shocking, but it’s so nice to have a kitchen that’s all ours to get cooking in! I’ve been getting back into the swing of having a meal plan for the week + also prepping lunches on a Sunday to take with me to work! Not only is it fun to cook again, we’re being much healthier too!
I’ve also really found my groove with Bullet Journalling this month, and I’m really loving the outcome. I’ve found the combination of spreads that works best for me, the tools I love + I really feel like my Bullet Journal is super functional these days. I’ve been using the Pilot V Ball 0.5 to fill in the spreads, and the Tombow Dual Tip Brush pens for adding colour, and I really love them. I also did a Skillshare class this month on drawing Cacti and Succulents, and I’ve been loving incorporating them into my spreads! Let me know if you’d like to see an updated bullet journal post on the blog, I can run you through how I’ve been using it recently!
And lastly, the Spotify playlist I’ve been blaring in my car on these last few sunny days we’ve been having! There’s something about driving in the summer with the windows down + your music up loud!
I’d love to hear in the comments what you guys have been loving this month!
