From the end of January to the end of March, I didn’t wear makeup. Not a scrap. It was a really weird experience and one that perhaps I need to write a blog post on, but we’ll save that for another day. Over the last two weeks though, I’ve started to go out and about more again, and started to wear bits and pieces of makeup, and it’s been SO nice. I had a stack of new makeup bits just waiting to be used, and a few old favourites I was dying to crack out again, and I thought I’d share with you the stuff I’ve been reaching for + loving over the last couple of weeks.
Despite craving makeup again, I haven’t wanted anything heavy on my skin. I’ve been pretty much exclusively using my Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Balm just to even out my skintone. I’m struggling at the moment with a lot more sallowness to my skin, but this has a gorgeous peachy tone that helps correct that. I’ve been mixing in a little of the Maybelline Master Strobing Liquid in the pink shade just to help brighten things up a little more. This product can be used as a primer, but I prefer it just mixed in with base to lift things and add a little glow! For concealer, I picked up the new NARS Soft Matte Concealer back at the end of January so I’ve been putting that to the test. So far so good, it’s super creamy and easy to apply, but high coverage and long lasting – and the shade Vanilla is a perfect colour match for my skin.
Keeping things simple for cheeks, I’ve just been reaching for my MAC Mineralize Blush in Raybeam, a pretty soft peach that adds warmth and colour to the skin + is slightly iridescent, so I feel like I can skip highlight + contour when I use this. I’ve been loving using this with the NYX Dual Fibre Face Brush, which just departs the perfect amount of product on the skin.
I’ve not been bothering much with brows, but when I do I’ve been testing the Maybelline Brow Precise Fibre Filler. I like the effect this gives, but it’s not the easiest to apply, so we’ll see how I get on with this! For eyes I’ve been testing out the Nyx Ultimate Shadow Palette in Warm Neutrals and digging it. If you’re into warm toned shadows, y’all need this. Rimmel very kindly sent me their new Volume Shake Mascara to test out and whilst I know it’s been a controversial one, I really like it. It’s quite a heavy mascara, but easy to create thick, fluttery volumised lashes with!
And since my lips have been pretty dry, I’ve been playing it safe with the Sephora Collection Oil Infused Colour and Care in Iced Coffee, which is soft and light on the lips, and just polishes the look off.
So there we go, a simple makeup look that just makes me feel a little more put together, even on bed rest!
What makeup have you been loving recently?
