I didn’t do a December favourites, so it definitely feels like time to chat about bits and pieces I’ve been loving recently, beauty or otherwise! I tend to find January favourites a little tricky, since they seem to read more like a ‘what I got for Christmas’ post, but this year I found picking things worth a mention out pretty easy!
Beauty: I’ve been keeping things simple makeup-wise this month, with one little makeup bag I’ve been reaching for day in and day out. A few products worth a mention though, I think the IT Cosmetics CC Cream might just be my new all time favourite base pick – it’s natural looking but packs a fair punch of coverage. One pump is perfect for everyday, but I can build it up if need be! I finally picked up the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder back in December and now I finally know what all the fuss is about – this stuff has made me fall in love with contouring! Nothing overly harsh or fancy going on here, just a little of this under the cheekbones to help disguise a post christmas chocolate binge! I’ve also been hooked on my Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed, the perfect nudey everyday blush! A big shoutout for my Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask for saving my lips from the winter cold too – a super thick + hydrating formula which has done wonders at keeping my lips in tip top condition this month. And lastly, I wanted to mention the Jo Malone Blackberry and Bay Fragrance, which I’ve been wearing for most of the month, it’s a little different to my other fragrances, a little more herby, but I’m really into it!
Clothes: My main clothing wear this month has been my new Maje coat – a bargain sale find I spoke about last week. This thing is so super warm and cosy, I’ve worn it every single day since I bought it. It’s the perfect protection against these intensely foggy, freezing cold mornings we’ve been having! I’ve also been obsessed with my new Rebecca Minkoff Mini Hudson Moto bag, the perfect size for throwing in my everyday necessities!
Reading: This month I’ve been trying to make a conscious effort to read more, and I got totally sucked into Sarah Perry’s The Essex Serpent. This was totally case of judging a book by it’s cover – I literally just bought it because the cover was gorgeous, but I actually really loved it. It’s a very different story to what I normally read, but Perry has a way with words that just hooks you in. I’ve also been loving Suitcase Magazine + Lodestars this month – they’ve been fueling my January wanderlust.
Watching: Escapism has been the order of the month, so my TV watching has reflected that! I really loved Netflix’s take on A Series of Unfortunate Events – it was as close to the world my brain imagined as a child as you could hope to get. I also really enjoyed Sherlock this year, I was a little disappointed with the last season, but this one was much more on track if you ask me!
Online: I’ve been spending a lot of my online time browsing the travel sales, partly due to your run of the mill January blues, and partly because the state of the world right now is pretty tragic, so running away to a tropical island seems pretty tempting. However, if instead of running you want to get educated, I’d recommend watching this video on everything Trump did during his first week in office. If you’re after something a little happier to read, check out Lauren’s Blog, she’s been killing it this month.
What have you been loving this month?
