Ever since I got hooked on Serial Season One, I’ve been dabbling in the world of podcasts, but now that I’m spending five days a week in the office, I’ve been listening to a lot more than before. I love having something on in the background while I’m working, driving, or even unwinding before bed, and a podcast is the perfect answer.
So I’ve created kind of a Frankenstein playlist of Podcasts that I figured I’d share with you incase, like me, you like a little background noise.
The Slow Home Podcast: For anyone interested in slow living, minimalism or simple living, this one is for you. Interesting and thoughtful discussions on slowing down and opting out. Easy to listen to, but engaging too.
Gilmore Guys: If you’re into Gilmore Girls, you need to check this podcast out! Kevin & Demi go episode by episode through Gilmore Girls and discuss in depth. Some of these are loooooong, so I love to turn one on when I sit at my desk in the morning, and it rides me through til lunch with a few giggles along the way. It’s basically like gabbing about the latest episode with your mates.
TEDTalks: Probably an obvious one, but if you haven’t checked out TEDTalks yet you really should. Insightful, thought provoking discussions on a whole world of topics. Recently, I’ve enjoyed ‘Inside the mind of a former radical jihadist’ and ‘Machine intelligence makes human morals more important’.
No Such Thing As A Fish: A good one for car journeys, from the offices of QI. A weekly discussion of four strange facts, it ticks boxes for being funny but also making you feel like you’ve learned something.
My Dad Wrote A Porno: Not one for the faint of heart (or young of heart!), but definitely one if you’ve got a wicked sense of humour. It’s exactly as it sounds, three friends gather to read the erotic literature written by Jamie Morton’s Dad. It’s grammatically, factually and anatomically inaccurate, and entirely hilarious.
Histories of the Unexpected: A relatively new podcast on the block, each episode details the history of items you’ve never thought to think about, like Oranges or Gloves. It’s interesting, insightful and educational, and one I often stick on when I need a twenty minute brain recharge.
Sleep With Me: The podcast designed to send you to sleep. I don’t know it works but it does. It’s a boring bedtime story in essence, with a lot of repetition, droning and a monotone narrator. I flick this on when I can’t sleep and it does the trick.
Why Oh Why: An interesting discussion on love & relationships in the modern world. This is somewhere between documentary, investigation and story time, but for anyone interested in humans & human relationships, it’s worth a listen.
Anything I should be adding to my playlist?
