Fair warning, this is going to be a very photo heavy post! This weekend, Connor and I traveled up to Gloucestershire, to visit Westonbirt Arboretum, and the photos were so beautiful I just had to share them!

Westonbirt Arboretum is somewhere I used to visit a lot as a child, we lived half an hour away so as soon as the leaves began to turn, we’d go visit.

It’s one of my favourite locations in the country, a quite, peaceful nature spot, that at this time of year, is beyond beautiful.

We got really lucky with the weather, having left at 7am and made the two hour drive in the most horrendous conditions, as soon as we stepped out of the car at the Arboretum, the skies cleared and the sun began to beam down.

We pulled on our walking boots and waterproof jackets, which came in handy since the trees were still drenched with rainwater, and headed into the Arboretum!

The team at Westonbirt have made deciding a walking route super easy, and have mapped out two ‘Autumn Walk’ routes, that each lead you round areas of the Arboretum that are most beautiful at this time of year. The Silk Wood route, that leads you through the Japanese Maple collection, or the Old Arboretum, which is home to some incredibly beautiful trees.

We ambitiously decided to tackle both routes, which according to the map would take three hours. It actually took us a little over two, despite me constantly stopping to snap the gorgeous leaves! westonbirt-arboretum-33-of-74 westonbirt-arboretum-44-of-74 westonbirt-arboretum-45-of-74 westonbirt-arboretum-28-of-74 westonbirt-arboretum-29-of-74 westonbirt-arboretum-31-of-74 westonbirt-arboretum-36-of-74

Because we arrived when the Arboretum opened at 9am, the place was pretty much deserted, except for a few locals & their dogs. Can you imagine living in the area and getting to walk your dog here everyday? All the dogs I saw looked muddy and worn out and like they were having the best day of their entire lives!

The path we took started out on the tree top trail, looking out across the Arboretum and getting up close and personal with some of the taller trees. The trail is super geared up for families, with lots of information and challenges for little ones!

It then led us right round the Arboretum, and we honestly couldn’t have picked a better day to visit. The sun bounced off the leaves, catching the drops of rain adorning the trees, making it look like everything was glowing. The leaves were in full autumn swing, it almost seemed like they were changing colour before our very eyes.

Two hours well spent walking the forest, our giant pub lunches were well deserved after that!
