You guys know by now that any excuse to visit the team at Lush and I’m IN. As a long term fan of their products, ethos and more recently their spa, it’s a brand I love to support. So when an email arrived inviting me down to the spa to try their new treatment, it was an easy yes.
The Lush Renaissance Treatment is described as a ‘meditation on fragrance’ so suffice it to say I had no idea what to expect! I love how unique the Lush treatments are, there’s nothing quite like them!

The Lush Spa in Poole is a seriously dreamy space. It reminds me of a farmhouse, a quiet cosy space where you can relax to the sound of birds chirping. It’s a small space but they time treatments well, I’ve never actually seen another customer in there!
To start the treatment, you take a seat with the therapist in the kitchen, a jug of mint water to sip at on hand. Together you chat about how you’ve been feeling, and decide what fragrance will be used during the treatment. The fragrances used in the treatment respond with different feelings, and aim to encourage one of four ‘humours’ within you. Since I’ve been struggling with feeling really sluggish recently, we decided I could use a little more Purpose in my life. Luckily, the scent aligned with Purpose happened to be my favourite of the four, Sappho. With notes of vanilla and tobacco, it’s the perfect kind of warm and woody fragrance that I love.
Time for the treatment, and I maintain there is nowhere cosier than a Lush treatment room. Before you hop up on the bed, the therapist sprinkles the bed with a powder, scented with the base notes of your chosen fragrance – it’s like getting into a warm hug! As always, the Renaissance Treatment comes with its own personalised soundtrack, recorded in Florence and invoking imagery of walking through sun drenched Italian courtyards. The therapist popped my massage bar in to melt, and gave me some privacy to get snuggled up in the bed, in my cosy candlelit treatment room!
To start the treatment, the therapist gently aligned my body using Alexander Technique practices, think gentle pushes and pulls through the towel, manipulating your body into a comfortable and natural, relaxed position. During this alignment, she spoke some of the words associated with my chosen humour, Dynamic, Courageous, Powerful, Aligned, the idea is to meditate on these words during the treatment. The environment is so relaxing it’s easy to do so!
Once I was nicely aligned and settled, my therapist used the massage bar to give a heavenly foot and leg massage, complete with hot stones, completely heavenly. My therapist also spent some time massaging and aligning my neck, which I was extra grateful for! I could have fallen asleep with the massage, cosy space and gentle romantic sounds of Florence in the background!
Before finishing the treatment, the meditation words were repeated, and a sconce of the scent’s top notes was wafted over my body. It’s fascinating to me how all the different layers of a fragrance can smell so different, and come together to create one unique, unified scent. The way fragrance was used throughout the treatment definitely helped keep me focused on the meditation.
After the treatment, I was given plenty of time to get ready, and then I met my therapist in the kitchen again for a drink! I had a lemon and mint infusion, I love how Lush have all these different sound and taste pairings for their treatments, it all adds to this really holistic experience.
It’s a hard treatment to describe, it feels a little bit ‘woo’ and kinda boujie, but hell, it worked. I came out of the Renaissance treatment feeling so incredibly relaxed and focused, it was such an indulgent feeling. It’s a forty minute treatment and Lush are pushing the idea of it being a ‘lunchtime pick me up’ which I really love. If you’re looking for a way to relax with a little more purpose and focus, I really can’t recommend it enough.
The Lush Renaissance Treatment is available now, and costs £75.
My treatment was gifted, but as always, all thoughts are my own!
