January is a month for resets, and that mentality hasn’t gone amiss in my skincare routine. I’ve been stripping back the frills and heading for a simple, back to basics routine with the aim of keeping my skin clear and glowy, rather than as dull as the weather.
I keep coming back to the Grown Alchemist Gentle Gel Facial Cleanser for my morning cleanse. It’s such a softening, gentle cleanser with a fresh herbal scent, it’s a nice way to wake the skin up softly. The good ingredients in Grown Alchemist skincare feel like the best way to start the day!
In the evenings, I’ve fallen for my Lush Let The Good Times Roll Cleanser all over again. I love that this is gently gritty, it really helps me feel like I’m getting every last scrap of makeup off and dirt off my face, and negates the need for an exfoliating step. Since I’ve been using this daily again, I’ve definitely noticed a different in how soft and bright my skin looks.
I’m having a bit of a love affair with Herbivore right now, their products are just glorious. I love the ethos behind the brand, and everything I’ve tried so far, I love! I’ve been using the Herbivore Rose Hibiscus Hydrating Mist as a morning spritz to perk the skin up, a bit of a princess product perhaps but one that feels wonderfully refreshing on the skin.
I’ve also been loving the Blue Clay Detoxifying Treatment Mask as a once a week skin clearing treat. I’ve not used a powder face mask before, but after some trial and error I’m actually really enjoying mixing this with a splash of apple cider vinegar. Not only is apple cider vinegar really healling for the skin, it also makes the mask foam up and apply easier.
The real star of the Herbivore show however has been the Lapis Facial Oil. A rather luxurious addition to my evening skincare routine, I’ve been massaging this in post cleanse and the benefits have been remarkable. Not only is it an intensely nourishing oil, it also helps reduce redness and heal blemishes. My skin is much calmer and happier when I use this!
Since it is the season for dry skin, I’ve roped in my Sunday Riley CEO Protect and Repair Moisturiser again. This orange scented moisturiser is thick and creamy, intensely hydrating and helps repair the barrier of your skin so it can protect itself better from the elements. I love how soft and smooth my skin feels when I use this regularly.
I’m having a bit of a mask moment right now, so one of the other products getting a lot of love is my Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask. This is an interesting little product, it’s thick and creamy, the consistency is like a moisture mask, and whilst it does offer hydration, what this is great for is just soothing agitated skin. It’s packed full of antioxidants, and I find a weekly treatment with this keeps my skin soft and happy.
One more mask for good measure, and this is one I like to use in the mornings! The Ren Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Face Mask has been a staple in my skincare collection for a long time, but I really ramp up the use around this time of year. I like applying this for ten minutes or so in the morning, especially on days when my skin looks particularly tired. Just ten minutes of this in the morning and my my skin gets that 10-hours-sleep kinda glow. I love it.
And one last product to mention, a multitasking wonder treatment from local brand Yellow Gorse. Their Witch Hazel has been so handy, and it’s super affordable too. I use a little of this on a cotton pad as a toner, and also take a cotton bud soaked in it and press it to any blemishes as a targeted spot treatment.
