Afternoon Tea at The Lime Wood Hotel

If you follow me on Instagram you’ll likely have seen these photos already but my afternoon tea at the Lime Wood Hotel was SO good that I felt like I needed to dedicate a whole blog post to it!

Shamefully, our afternoon tea here was my mum’s birthday present, that we only got around to going to last month! I like to say the build up made it all the more sweet!

Nestled out in the heart of the New Forest, the Lime Wood Hotel is a converted manor house that is basically the stuff of my dreams. It’s quite and peaceful, surrounded by rolling hills and wild New Forest Ponies. Honestly the whole place is an Instagram vision.

Afternoon Tea at The Lime Wood is served in the courtyard, dreamy bar and retractable glass roof included. We were so lucky with the weather, gorgeous 28 degree heat, so the roof was open and we were able to sit back and enjoy the sun. We were shown to a cosy sofa opposite the bar and given menus, while the staff bought over iced water with lemon to help beat the heat!

We opted for the traditional afternoon tea, sandwiches, scones and desserts served with unlimited hot drinks. My mum opted for an Americano whilst I ordered a pot of mint tea – aren’t the teacups so cute?

One thing I dislike about afternoon tea is when there isn’t enough savoury to balance out the sweet. No chance of that here, staff encouraged us to let them know if we wanted more sandwiches, they’ll keep them coming til you’ve had enough! We had cheese and tomato, ham and mustard, egg mayo and salmon and cucumber – the egg mayo ones were my favourite, so fresh and tasty!

The scones were divine, served fresh from the oven and with mountains of fresh cream and jam, dished up in cute little hammered copper pots!

As for the cakes, we had chocolate flower pots, strawberry mint eclairs, fresh cream puffs and yummy cherry bakewells. I often find that one or two of the desserts at an afternoon tea won’t be to my taste, but all of these were delicious.

As if that wasn’t enough, they even have a little bar cart with extra cakes, homemade battenburg, viennesse whirls and rich chocolate cake. When we said we were too full, they boxed a few extras up for us to take home – now that’s good service!

Bellies full of cake, we had a little potter round the gorgeous gardens. Ponds filled with giant koi karp, blooming Jasmine trellises, a dreamy greenhouse, the grounds are simply stunning. I’d love to come back here on a summers evening for a G&T on the terrace!

Honestly, I can’t fault our afternoon at The Lime Wood Hotel, the staff were wonderfully friendly, the place is gorgeous and the food was divine. I’ll definitely be returning!
