My Honest Thoughts: Isle of Paradise Tanning Water

I did a little Insta Stories a few weeks ago with my first impressions on the infamous Isle of Paradise Tanning Water that’s been doing the rounds on the blog circuit recently. You guys were really interested, so I thought I’d do a follow up not that I’ve used it more than once, and have formed a bit more of an opinion.

Firstly, the deets. You get 200ml of product for your £18.99, which seems like a lot of money, but I find the spray water goes further than a cream would. All Isle of Paradise’s products are 100% vegan, cruelty free, and packed with goodies like avocado, coconut oil and eucalyptus. There’s no funky DHA scent, and the products are meant to be ‘colour correcting’, although I’m not sure I totally buy that.

I have the light shade and I’d caution that it isn’t that light. The first time I used it I was straight up orange, so a light hand is also required with this.

For a natural looking tan I think the best way to apply this is a couple of times a week very lightly, to build up a natural glow slowly. If you go straight in with a liberal application, you’re going to be orange. I spritz this onto the skin and then use my St Tropez mitt to buff it in, and I really spend a good amount of time working the product in. It’s super lightweight on the skin and sinks in pretty fast, although you will feel a little tacky for around 20 minutes after application.

It takes 4-6 hours to develop so I recommend applying before bed. It’s pretty easy to use, especially if you have someone to help you do your back, and with a light hand it’s pretty foolproof. It lasts around 5-7 days, so if you keep applying it every 3/4 days you could easily maintain a good glow. You don’t need to use much for one application, so even applying regularly I don’t think you’d run out fast.

Is it worth it though? Well, I have to admit, I’m not much of a fake tan fan, but if I was after a faux glow, I’d certainly use this. In all honesty I haven’t used it in around a month, purely because I’m quite happy with my current natural tan. I think I’ll get more use of this in the winter, when my skin needs a bit more oomph.

So in conclusion, this probably isn’t the one for you if you’re after an all out tan. If you’re looking for a little bit of glow, or to boost your natural tan though? This stuff is great, a nice alternative to heavy, sticky, thick creams, and a good ingredients list to boot.
