Styling A Floral Midi Skirt For Spring Days

I never thought I’d be saying a floral midi skirt has become a spring style staple for me (florals for spring?! Groundbreaking…) but here we are and here I am in just that! I’ve never been much of a florals gal, but I made an exception for this gorgeous pleated midi, it’s the perfect pop of colour whilst still conforming to my monochrome wardrobe preferences.

I’ve always found styling midis to be a little tricky though, whilst I generally find the shape to be quite flattering for me, my waist is my smallest part so I like that it nips in there, I find they can look a little shapeless if paired with the wrong thing.

Whilst I see gals all over the ‘gram and Pinterests rocking their midis with sweaters and shirts, that look really doesn’t work with my body shape (big boobs, small waist, hips but no bum), and generally leaves me looking quite potato-sack-y. Instead, I find myself balancing out the oversized skirt silhouette with something more form fitting on the top, like a linen cami or a tank top.

As this particular skirt is quite bold, I tend to lean towards a plain block colour on my top half, letting the skirt be the star of the show!

For a smarter, evening look, it pairs well with a black lace blouse, and a pair of heeled sandals, but on this occasion, an afternoon of food and drinks at my favourite country pub, I went for a simple cami, dressed down with leather heeled sandals and my denim jacket.

The Pig in Brockenhurst, whilst being everything you’d want from a traditional english country hotel, gives me this urge to look a little more put together when I visit, and I think this outfit struck the perfect balance between smart and casual!

I took my jacket off once inside to feel a little smarter, but I feel like this outfit works quite well. I always think carrying a nice handbag does a lot for an outfit now!

The Pig is one of my favourite spots near home, and if you’re ever in the area I highly recommend checking out. After snapping approximately 10000 outfit photos in the gardens, Kelly and I spent a gorgeous evening in the hotel, drinking wine, snacking on sandwiches and cheese boards, and gossiping the day away.

It was the perfect spring outing for my floral midi, I can’t wait to get more wear out of it as we move into summer!

I will note that after leaving The Pig on this day, we got stuck in a flash flood. It was not the perfect outfit for pushing a car up a hill in the pouring rain whilst knee deep in water, but you can’t win them all.

Are you a fan of floral midi skirts?

Thanks to my gorgeous friend Kelly for taking around a billion outfit photos with me, and being the best company a girl could ask for.
