Drugstore Haul + First Impressions

It’s been a while since I’ve gotten particularly spendy at the drugstore, I feel like good budget friendly new releases are few and far between these days. It seems like twice a year my regular wander down the aisles of Boots and Superdrug will turn up  a few gems, but the rest of the time my beauty spending seems to be more splurgy. With that in mind, since I picked up a few bits recently and I thought I’d share them with you, since drugstore hauls are becoming few and far between! I also filmed my first impressions of a few of these bits, which you can find at the bottom of the post!

Rimmel Lasting Finish Breathable FoundationMarketed as a more lightweight iteration of Rimmel’s classic Lasting Finish Foundation, I was intrigued by this one – I love that lightweight bases are becoming more readily available in the drugstore. This one’s nice, light but buildable coverage, not thick or cakey on the skin and a matte finish. I do find this to cling to any dryness so not one for dry skinned-gals, but but post moisturiser this is a nice affordable alternative to something like the NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Breathable ConcealerUnfortunately the matching concealer to the foundation was a bit of a let down. When I swatched this in store it seemed to be a good medium coverage but natural looking concealer, but on me this creased within minutes, it just didn’t sit well on my skin. I also find the sponge applicator to be a little odd, it’s way to dense to be useful! This one was a real miss for me.

Maybelline Mastercamo Correcting Pen in Pink: I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with corrector, I love the idea but in practice they’ve never worked for me. This one however, is gorgeous – a perfect pink shade that’s incredibly brightening but also offers coverage. I like applying this under my eyes before foundation, it blends out quickly and easily, and means I can skip concealer!

L’Oreal Infallible Total Coverage Foundation: I’ve been on the hunt for a new high coverage foundation, and after trying this out in my sister’s makeup bag I knew I had to pick it up. It’s got a thick, whipped texture, almost reminiscent of Dream Matte Mousse (but a lot less drying), and it packs a solid coverage punch. I like working this into my skin with a buffing brush on days when I want a little more coverage! It’s certainly on the matte side of things but I don’t find it too drying or clingy! Worth bearing in mind it does oxidise a little!

Maybelline Fashion Brow Tattoo Long Lasting Tint: For my full review + a demo of me using this product check out the video below, where I try it out for the first time and then check in over the next few days with my thoughts. The gist is I really like this and if you can find a shade that works for you I’d give it a go! Be wary that if you peel off the product too soon, it can leave things looking a little warm toned!

Burts Bees Strawberry Lip Balm: I actually bought this by accident, my tinted Burts Bees lip balm was past it so I chucked it out, and bought this to replace it. It’s a nice lip balm and I’ll use it, but it’s not tinted so I still need to pick up another one!

Real Techniques Mini Contour Brush: I picked this up on a whim from the  Christmas Gifting section in Boots and I’ve been really impressed with it. It’s a great multitasking brush for travel, it’s petite size and the soft duofibre bristles mean it doesn’t pick up too much product and blends well. I’ve been enjoying using it on a day to day basis to apply powder where I want it, it’s super precise and not too intense! At £6 it’s a bargain worth picking up!

So there we go, the bits I’ve picked up this month! Be sure to check out the video for a full demo and review of the Brow Tattoo, as well as a few other bits, and let me know what you think!
