Stay: The Hoxton Holburn

Since moving out of London (nearly a year ago can you believe?!) our trips back up to our favourite city have always been hectic. Cramming in meetings, drinks with friends as well as fly in visits to pick up our favourite essentials (cheese and wine from Whole Foods, plain tees from & Other Stories, and magazines from Wardour News), we rarely get to spend time in London just hanging out anymore. SO, we decided to book in a weekend in London just the two of us, no meetings, no catching up with friends, just Connor and I hanging out in our favourite city.

Now, I’ve stayed in hotels in London a handful of times, mostly before I moved up for Uni, and most recently for Connor’s Masters graduation, but this time we wanted a hotel right in the thick of Central, so we could potter about and not have to go far. A quick peak on Hotel Tonight + we bagged a room at the Hoxton Holburn at just under £120 for the night, a steal for a central London hotel.

I’ve been to the Hoxton a few times for events but never to stay, so I was pretty excited. It boasts an onsite Grind coffee shop (highly recommend their lattes + avocado toast), Chicken Shop, Cheeky Nail bar, as well as a bar and restaurant in the lobby. The lobby area is full of comfy seating + free wifi, so is usually full of laptop workers, making the most of the cosy but undeniably hipster vibe.

We arrived in London a little earlier than our 2pm check in time, so we dropped our bags at reception and nipped out for some lunch. When we returned to check in, the whole process took about two minutes, and our bags had already been delivered to our room!

The rooms at The Hoxton Holburn are petite but perfectly formed, with everything you could possibly need inside. You book a room based on square footage and from what I can gather, all the rooms have the same stuff in, it’s just a size difference. Because we booked through Hotels Tonight, we didn’t get to pick a size, we were just guaranteed a room big enough for two, and our little room was perfect!

It had a super comfortable king size bed (with extra pillows in a drawer underneath just in case), coffee and tea making facilities (a big thumbs up from me for the inclusion of camomile and green tea) and gorgeous toiletries from Pen and Ink in the bathroom. I can’t believe I forgot to photograph the bathroom, it was beautiful! We also had a tv and radio, as well as a mini fridge stocked with complimentary milk for coffee and teas, as well as bottles of still water. We called housekeeping and were bought an iron and board in a matter of minutes – they really had thought of everything!

There was also a ‘mini bar list’ full of snacks and drinks that you could pick up from reception. They were so reasonably priced too, a bag of nuts for £1, a bottle of wine for £8, Peroni for £2 – high street prices not hotel prices, a nice touch!

We were on the first floor in a room that looked out over the high street, and despite this the room was totally silent, pretty impressively so for a hotel right in the middle of Holburn! When we went up to bed in the evening there was a DJ playing in the lobby pretty much directly under our room, but we couldn’t hear a thing!

The Hoxton Holburn offers a complimentary ‘breakfast bag’ service, which was such a nice touch! There’s a brown paper bag in the room, you can mark how many you want and what time you want it, leave it on a little hook outside your door, and they’ll come round and fill it with a fresh squeezed orange juice, granola pot and banana in the morning! They even swapped my banana for a pink lady apple (my favourite) after I wrote on the bag that I have a severe aversion to bananas! It was such a nice touch and meant we could laze in bed on Sunday morning without having to get up to go eat! You can also order room service from their restaurant downstairs for the same prices as in the restaurant, just with a 12.5% service charge, so if you want a little more you can get it!

Also, how cute are their mugs?! I wish I’d bought one, they were only £5 at reception!

So if you’re looking for a spot to stay in Central London that ticks all the boxes, definitely check out the Hoxton Holburn! We’ll definitely be back next time we need a little London staycation!

This post isn’t sponsored at all, but I do have a code for Hotel Tonight if you’re interested in booking a last minute staycation of your own! You can use the code JAYEROCKETT7 for £15 off your first booking, I used one of these codes for our trip and it made an affordable stay even cheaper! Full disclosure, if you book using this code I’ll also receive £15 off, but once you’ve made an account you’ll get a code to share too!
