As a teen who suffered horribly with bad, hormonal skin, skincare has been an important part of my beauty routine for as long as I can remember. My No 7 and Clinique filled skincare routine got me out of my stressed skin acne days, and into a place where I got a little too comfortable with my good skin, and let my skincare routine slide. Fast forward to today and I’m trying really hard with my skincare again, trying hard to make it simple but effective, but also luxurious and comforting so I WANT to do it. Over the last two years my skincare routine has changed massively, and I wanted to chat to you guys about it.
Having a good skincare routine is so important, not just to keep your skin in line, but also to make you feel good. I love coming home after a long day and taking my makeup off, slathering my skin in softening creams, it feels so pampering!
IN THE MORNING
The mornings were where my skincare routine was falling a little flat, I was skipping over steps in favour of a few minutes more in bed. Most mornings, I’d even forgo washing my face, instead slapping a little moisturiser on before my makeup and leaving at that.
Now I’m trying to take a little more care and put a little more effort in! For me, I know that a jam packed morning skincare routine is something I’ll never stick to, so I stick to cleanse, moisturise and eye cream. I use my Grown Alchemist Gentle Gel Cleanser to refresh my skin in the morning – I actually find this step really helps wake me up as a bonus, and then pat my skin dry with a towel. I massage in a small amount of the Caudalie Vinosource Moisturising Sorbet, taking it down my neck too. This moisturiser really packs a lot of hydration in, but the whipped ‘sorbet’ texture of it means it soaks in fast, so your skin isn’t left feeling greasy, and you can apply makeup straight away. Then I use The Ordinary’s Caffeine Solution under my eyes, which is cooling and refreshing as well as actually effective.
It’s only three steps but my skin is thanking me for making a little more time in the morning!
IN THE EVENING
I say evening but I tend to do this once I’m in for the night, so it often ends up being around 6pm! Whilst I was always a diligent double cleanser, I tended to slip up when it came to the moisturising/serum/mask portion of events.
These days I’m a big fan of the Bobbi Brown Soothing Cleansing Oil, which is incredibly gentle on the skin and doesn’t feel oily at all, but removes makeup like a pro. Then I alternate between following up with the Bobbi Brown Soothing Cleansing Milk, or Lush Let The Good Times Roll. The Bobbi Brown offering is really softening on the skin, it leaves you feeling clean but not stripped of moisture. Let The Good Times Roll is my favourite scrub, it’s really fine and gentle, but still does a good job of keeping your skin looking fresh and glowy.
I’ve never really been able to stick to using a toner so from here I tend to skip forward to serum. I’m using and loving The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid, which really makes whatever I apply after sink in quicker. I then follow up with my Grown Alchemist Hydra Repair Day Cream, which although billed as a day cream, is super moisturising and doesn’t leave your skin feeling sticky. If my skin feels like it needs a little more, I’ll generously apply the Kiehl’s Cilantro and Orange Pollutant Defending Masque, which my skin just ADORES. It drinks it up and gets rid of any bumps or congestion going on. A little of the Kiehl’s Creamy Avocado Eye Treatment and we’re done!
