Despite having a pretty hefty beauty product collection, I’m a creature of habit and I tend to consistently reach for the same products over and over. You could say I’m pretty good at getting myself stuck in a makeup rut, so I like to make a habit of sorting out my makeup drawers on the regular and having a product reshuffle in the hopes it’ll make me reach for a few different things. I did this recently and rediscovered a few old favourites…
I’m not normally one for MAC Foundations but I love this one so much I bought it twice. It’s a high coverage foundation with pretty intense staying power, I love this one for fuller coverage makeup looks in the summer because it won’t budge no matter how hot and sweaty you get. I find this pretty comfortable on the skin despite it’s high coverage, and I love that the finish is not-too-matte-not-too-dewy. I’ve been reaching for this over the last few weeks when I’ve wanted a more polished look and it hasn’t disappointed! I’ve got two shades, NC15 + NC20 which I switch between or mix depending on how much of a ‘tan’ I have (ie, am I pale or a lighter shade of pale).
It’s A 10 Miracle Leave In Plus Keratin.
I picked up a fresh bottle of this when I was in the States in December and it got unpacked into the wrong place, so I only found it again a month or so ago. If you have colour treated hair like me, particularly bleached hair, this stuff is fantastic. I spray it in quite liberally after washing my hair, and it really helps keep my hair soft and strong. A nightmare to track down in the UK but worth every penny.
Once my favourite (and only) highlight, this product started my love affair with glowy cheekbones. It got relinquished to the back of the drawer whilst I fawned over my MAC Mineralize Skinfinishes, my Urban Decay Sin and a few different shades from Becca, but I reached for this on a whim the other day and all the good memories came flooding back. If I could only have one highlighter, this would be the one, it’s buttery smooth and glowy, the perfect shade for my skintone, and blends out like a dream. It’s also fairly affordable too!
I bought this a while back and used it religiously, but a few months ago I started getting really lax with my skincare and it fell by the wayside. I pulled this out the other day when my skin was feeling really dry and remembered why I love it. I feel like when I apply this before my usual moisturiser my skin just absorbs so much more moisture, leaving things feeling plump and hydrated.
I bought this lipstick and then promptly fell out of love with opaque lip colours, no reflection on the lipstick itself, I just started having a moment for sheer lipsticks. I’ve had this in my handbag for the last couple of weeks and feel like I’ve been missing out by not using it, it’s the most gorgeous subtle peachy nude that gives a wash of opaque colour instantly. It’s a matte finish but incredibly comfortable on the lips, it’s not drying nor does it cling to dry patches, and it just looks really pretty on.
This stuff is eye-wateringly expensive, hence why I decided to pull it back into rotation – I want to get my monies worth! I stopped using this after picking up the Anastasia Brow Wiz in Copenhagen, because for everyday I think it’s a slightly better colour match and looks a little bit more natural. What I love about this pencil though is it’s shape, it’s a thin wedge pencil which makes filling in your brows easy and quick. It’s much faster than drawing in individual hairs with the Anastasia offering, but the waxy texture stops things looking too intense. I think I prefer this just a smidge over the brow wiz, but not enough to justify the price difference!
I didn’t necessarily forget about this product, as just stop wearing black liner. I was favouring a more simple makeup look and stopped reaching for any eyeliners at all. I saw someone a few weeks back wearing black winged liner and it stirred something in me, since then I’ve been wearing winged liner non stop. I don’t own any black liquid liners other than this one, it’s so good I never dare stray from it! Easy to apply, longwearing and super black it’s the best black liner I’ve tried, and this is my fourth one!
