My Work From Home Simple Makeup Routine

Is anyone else completely unproductive without makeup? I’m trying to toe the line between no makeup unproductivity, and full face, all I want to do is take selfies, you feel me?

There’s something about getting up and putting on makeup that lets my brain know it’s time to work, and with endless lockdowns and no end in sight to working from home, I need all the help I can get differentiating work time from rest time.

I’m trying to keep things as simple as possible, because let’s face it, there’s little point in full face faff, and also if it’s too complicated I probably just won’t do it. Over the last few months I’ve fallen into a good routine though, and for the sake of ease I’ve bundled all my go to products up in my Elizabeth Scarlett Constellation Makeup Bag so I don’t have to think about it in the mornings.

The Basics – for when we’re keeping things super simple.

Typology 9 Ingredient Face Moisturiser (gifted). My skin always feels pretty tight when I wake up in the morning, so I always start by massaging in some moisturiser. My requirements for a morning moisturiser are pretty simple, no fragrance, quick absorption, no greasy residue, and this Typology offering ticks all the boxes. It’s simple and effective.

Dior Forever Skin Glow Foundation (previously gifted). I used this foundation a ton in 2019 and then drifted away from it last year, but recently it’s been exactly what my skin needs. It’s got a really natural finish and a medium coverage, which me and my maskne definitely need.

NARS Radiant Creamy ConcealerAn old favourite for good reason. Me and my aforementioned maskne need a little extra help and this is still the best concealer I’ve tried. Don’t be put off by the word radiant, this concealer looks exactly how I wish my skin would look, and stays put all day.

Glossier Boy Brow.  I try other brow gels and always come back to this one. It’s the perfect balance between tint and hold, and until I can be reunited with my brow tech, it will do.

Lush Lashes Mascara (gifted). If I’m not wearing mascara, I will nap, it’s a fact. Usually I favour super volumising mascaras, but right now I’m chasing that wide-eyed-got-enough-sleep-last-night look. Lush recently sent me their new mascara and I love it, the wand has a perfect comb for separating, lifting and coating each individual lash. Good stuff, and it comes off easy which is a blessing in the evening.

Milk Makeup Kush Lip Balm in NugThis winter has ravaged the skin on my lips so I’m constantly reaching for lip balm. For Zoom call and Teams meeting days, this is my balm of choice, a hydrating balm with a hint of nude colour, just to give a little more oomph.

The Optional Extras – for a more complete look.

Marc Jacobs O!Mega Bronze Perfect TanThis bronzer is just my favourite. With a big fluffy brush I take this around the perimeter of my face and under my cheekbones and it just warms everything up and gives the illusion of good bone structure.

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk BlushThis is perhaps my favourite blush of all time, it just seems to suit my skin so well, the perfect natural flush. I apply this liberally to the cheeks, and recently I’ve been using the outer pink shade as a crease colour and the inner highlight colour as a lid shade for a simple eye look that really pulls everything together. There’s something about using the same shade on your cheeks and eyes that just makes your makeup look a lot more put together.

MAC Eyeshadow in Amber LightsFor when I want a more dramatic eye look, I’ve been reaching for this shadow. There’s something about a single eyeshadow that you can wash all over the eye lid and it looks like a complicated look, and this does exactly that. It’s a really flattering golden bronze shade and whenever I wear it I get Zoom compliments.

KVD Beauty Tattoo Liner. My ride or die liquid liner, nothing is as easy to use or longwearing as this. I seem to be reliving my youth with winged liner at the moment and I’m a-okay with that.

So, are you strictly-no-makeup-at-home, or -need-makeup-to-function?

And remember, if you’re wearing makeup, nobody will notice you’re not wearing a bra. ?
