Little Happy Things

With everything that happened on Monday night, and the events since, the content I had scheduled for today just seemed, well, frivolous. I know that we can’t just halt our lives, but carrying on as normal isn’t easy either.

Driving into work this morning felt really odd. The sun was shining, trees glowing in it’s light, planes leaving trails along the clear blue skies. The radio was playing happy summer tunes, and it honestly just felt a bit wrong that the morning could be so beautiful.

So in an effort to try and not spiral into spending another day constantly refreshing the news, I thought I’d start the day with a list of little happy things. Little reminders that not everything in this world is dark and scary.

  • The morning light streaming into my new kitchen.
  • The flowers Connor’s parent’s bought me are starting to bloom, and fill my kitchen with colour.
  • Our cat Wispa, who rolls over every time she sees me coming, so I can rub her belly.

  • The wonderful feeling of sinking into my new bed, with it’s new duvet, pillows and sheets. It’s like climbing into a cloud.
  • The cup of tea Connor brings me in the morning while I’m doing my makeup.
  • Finally having a full sized fridge!

  • Visiting a local flower nursery with my Nan, to stock up on pretty succulents for the flat!
  • Cooking comfort food in my new kitchen (you’ve got a few hours left to catch the recipe on my Instagram Stories!).
  • No longer having workmen traipsing through our flat! Other than a few paint touch ups that need to happen next week, we’re officially done with renovating!

  • Finally finding my dream bullet journal setup, and feeling pretty happy with it!
  • Getting to see more of my best friend from school! We’re both back living in Bournemouth and it means we get to catch up in the week over coffee or a stroll round Topshop!
  • Learning to love my morning commute. I pour a cup of tea in my Keep Cup, download a podcast, and enjoy my twenty minute morning drive through the forest.

  • My prints from Desenio arrived! I was worried that the low price would equal low quality, but I’m so pleased with the prints and frames I picked! I may even have to order a few more!
  • Using Instagram Stories to chat more with internet friends! I’ve started trying to make an effort to engage with lovely people over Instagram Stories, and it’s another great way to build a sense of community online.
  • Half our new sofa was delivered and it fit! Second time’s the charm right?! Now we just have to wait for the second half to be delivered…in August.

I’d love if you could continue the happy vibes in the comments, with things that have made you smile this week!

I’m hoping you and your loved ones are all safe and sound this week, and make sure you all take some time to look after yourselves.

Big love, as always x
